2018
On a busy motorway in the north west, the Highways England team is tasked with rescuing a family broken down on the hard shoulder in thick fog.
The emergency services are stretched to the limit as Storms Doris and Eleanor hit the UK, with 90mph winds taking drivers by surprise and putting Highways England traffic officers under pressure, while South Central Ambulance paramedics are called out when 12 migrants are found in the back of a lorry in sub-zero temperatures. Meanwhile, the Stornoway Coastguard's helicopter scrambles to rescue a climber who fell from 70ft cliffs precariously close to the sea.
In Glasgow, vehicle technician Mark rushes to help a driver who has broken down on the hard shoulder of the motorway, while Kevin and Rob of a heavy recovery crew have their work cut out freeing lorries that have got stuck in snow on the A1M in the north-east of England. A school is forced to evacuate its pupils when Storm Caroline lashes the Orkneys, but one of the vehicles breaks down by the sea wall with 33 children on board.
A heavy road recovery team is called out in the middle of the night to deal with an overturned lorry that was carrying 25 tons of bricks, while vehicle engineer Stevie works in sub-zero conditions beside a live lane of motorway traffic in Perthshire.
In the week that Storm Emma hits, the UK's road network is brought to its knees. The heavy road team get to work helping a food delivery truck which is stuck in the snow. Cameras also follow events at a local shop which has run out of food.
2016
Stewart responds when a woman is stranded alone on the M62 in torrential rain. Rob helps a family with a three-year-old child are locked out of their car, 500 metres up in Snowdonia. Malcolm is called to help stranded motorists during a full-scale flood in the village of Whalley. Bobby deals with a car that has skidded off the road and flipped onto its roof, mere feet from a live railway line.
In the wettest UK winter in recorded history, roads turned into rivers and an unprecedented number of yellow, amber and red warnings were issued as storm after storm swept through the UK. Emergency calls come in thick and fast, and the RAC, Scotland's Highland Council and heavy recovery vehicles must battle the extreme conditions to reach those in need.
In the Highlands, snow plough driver Chris has his work cut out keeping Applecross Pass open, patrolman Steve has to help a driver stuck in the mud without getting trapped himself and the heavies are called in to deal with a serious accident involving a lorry.

As winter kicks off with Storm Angus, gale force winds and heavy rains cause floods on Britain's roads, while disaster strikes off the coast of Dover when a cargo ship smashes into another vessel and begins taking on water
In Essex, RAC patrolman Simon fights through a blizzard to get to a woman who has broken down on a busy A-road at night, struggling to locate the stranded driver and facing a tricky fix to get her safely back on her way. In Lowestoft, coastguards have their work cut out to keep the public safe as a red alert is issued for a huge tidal surge
In Lancashire, Highways England traffic officers Jason and Barry rush to a serious incident in which a car hangs precariously above a motorway, while 10 fire engines tackle a blazing lorry on the M6. In Northamptonshire, recovery specialist Jamie is called to the scene of a crash where a mangled car has been abandoned by its driver
In Northumbria, the pressure is on as specialist heavy recovery driver Michael tries to retrieve a lorry that has careered off the carriageway into a ditch. Meanwhile on a foggy and snow-covered A-road, Phil of Reading breakdown patrol tries to get a stranded driver up and running as traffic thunders by, while officers from Thames Valley Police recall a notorious Valentine's Day pile-up that involved 40 vehicles.

In the Highlands, snowplough teams battle blizzards, ice, flooding and landslides to keep the roads open, whilst across the UK patrols fight snow, gales and icy conditions to reach motorists stranded in the cold.
In Scotland, bad weather has caused the small town of Lochcarron to be effectively cut off from the outside world after a huge landslide brings tonnes of rock and trees crashing down onto a vital road into the town.
2020
The devastating impact of the Yorkshire floods in 2019, following people on the frontline of the flood response in some of the worst affected communities, like the village of Fishlake.
