Strumpet City was a 1980 television miniseries produced by Irish broadcaster RTÉ, based on James Plunkett's 1969 novel Strumpet City. It was RTÉ's most ambitious and expensive production to date. The script was written by Hugh Leonard, and Peter O'Toole played James Larkin, the union leader.
1980
When employers refused to give in to the workers' demands, the poverty-stricken masses were left struggling to support themselves and their families, and the tale focuses on individual responses to the suffering all around them.
Larkin comes under attack from his own union hierarchy and defies the police to speak to the blackleg workers in the docks, urging them to join the strike.
Relations between Fathers O'Connor and Giffley worsen and the struggle for survival in the city continues.
Epic drama based on James Plunkett's acclaimed novel, chronicling the horrors of the 1913 Dublin lockout, when employers attempted to break the unions. Last in Series.
