In this first episode, we join the team at the start of Reuben's second year of trading. They have won a contract to restore life to an old fishing pond at a grand country estate in County Durham by excavating 6,000 tons of silt.
Reuben Owen plans to expand his business by training up his work force, so 17-year-old Sarah is put in the driving seat so she can operate more of their heavy plant machinery. However, her first lesson on the dumper comes unstuck when Reuben challenges her to manoeuvre the fully loaded machine around a bog in reverse.

In the first episode, it's the height of summer and Reuben and the team are building a brand-new sheep pen for a local farmer. Reuben's younger brothers Miles and Sidney sweat it out on an arduous sheep shearing course. Girlfriend Jess's farm, she and her dad David are also trying to shear their 300-strong flock for summertime. Reuben and Jess throw Clive a 70th birthday party to remember, so armed with a truck-load of balloons they head to their local, the highest pub in England, where friends and family have gathered to celebrate.
Reuben and the gang are juggling work, adventures and a fair bit of unexpected drama. At an idyllic country house that was once an historic Cumbrian pub, Reuben, Sonny and Jess are installing underground pipework - a job that should be straightforward, in theory. Clive, and brothers Miles and Sid set sail across the Irish sea on a rare father-and-sons' adventure. They're bound for Donegal, where Clive has been invited to be the VIP judge at the legendary Clonmany Agricultural Show. The boys are thrown straight into the hands-on art of sheep prep, where Sid discovers getting a prize ewe perfectly show-ring ready sometimes comes with a few splatters. Miles, meanwhile, lives out a young farmer's dream as he leads his younger brother on an epic vintage tractor run down to the spectacular Donegal coast. The boys rejoin dad Clive with ringside seats at one of the show's biggest highlights - the All Nations Shearing Championships.
In the Cumbrian countryside, Reuben is grafting to finish an epic wildlife pond, shaping and smoothing the bank to get it ready for its feathered residents. While Reuben's digging goes without a hitch, Capper wedges himself so firmly in the muck that Sonny has to stage a muddy rescue. Up on the fells, Reuben and Jess turn their attention to a headcount of the heifers - or at least, try to.
Reuben and the gang battle a stubborn rock seam at the quarry, turning to restored vintage drills and risky expanding grout to crack it. In the fields, breeding season begins as rams are released among 300 ewes. The team also faces felling a dangerous tree using classic tractor power. As Bonfire Night looms, there's wood to gather, a Guy to make and toffee apples to prep.
Reuben and the crew take their vintage tractors out of retirement for a huge log piling mission for a farmer, but Jess's tractor has sprung a leak. In the quaint village of Brough, a tree has come down in a storm and broken headstones in the graveyard. Reuben and the team are called in to clear the wood, and while on site the church asks the group to repair a broken stay in the belfry.
Reuben and the team are hired to turn a hole in the ground, on a remote farm, into a vibrant pond. As January rolls in Reuben buys himself a new digger for the job which comes with extra wide tracks, ideal for digging in the winter weather. On Jess's family farm, she and dad David are more concerned with their frozen slurry tanker which has seized up overnight as temperatures dropped to minus 9.

Reuben faces challenges excavating near a crumbling stone barn. He also mentors aspiring young farmer Sidney and fixes a vintage tractor, hoping to bag a prize with their fixer upper.
Reuben takes on Miles as an apprentice. And although Reuben has never been on a plane before, Tommy helps his friend face his fear of heights - with an invitation to skydive.
With winter approaching its a time for Reuben and his crew to learn new skills as Reubens team have never tarmacked before. Later they test the new and improved road in their old three wheeler Robin Reliant.
Its christmas so Reuben and Tommy are picking a giant tree for the local town, but the pressure is on to deliver it for the big day. And the cold wet days see the teams first test drive.
Reuben sets about renovating a tumble down cottage and discovers an old well in the process. He also helps new girlfriend Jess round up her flock.
Reuben and Jess salvage stone from a quarry using huge machinery. With winter ending, they're eager to turn rubble into cash, but first must fix a stubborn loading shovel. Tommy enlists the team - and a helicopter - to help repair a 3km stretch of the coast-to-coast trail high in the Yorkshire Dales. Back at the farm, the Owen family recall Miles' emergency helicopter rescue and reunite with the medics who saved his life. Reuben helps Jess herd some very determined sheep.
Reuben and his friends attempt a vintage tractor journey - from the heart of the Yorkshire Dales to the Whitby coast. Having loved restoring vintage tractors since he was a child, this trip will mark Reuben's 21st birthday and test the whole team's mechanical skills. Girlfriend Jess has organised balloons and a cake, which are transported under the engine of Tommy's tractor.
Spring arrives in the Dales and the season brings a flurry of activity. The first job to tackle is Reuben's huge order of cropped stones. As he and the team must hand finish a hundred tons in the disused quarry, the crew visit a family run stone merchants in search of tips and learn from the professionals. Girlfriend Jess faces her busiest time of year as lambing season erupts on her family's farm.
