2005

Sofie, a city girl, moves to her grandmother’s old forester’s cottage to spend one last Christmas in Denmark before she and her mother travel to the other side of the world. Sofie is sad to lose her friends and wishes she didn’t have to leave. At her grandmother’s house, she meets a boy named Jonas, who lives on the first floor with his father and little sister. But Sofie only really cheers up when her grandmother reveals that the forest surrounding the house was once haunted by ancient Norse gods. And rumor has it that the stone cairn on the hill can grant wishes…
Sofie has moved to the countryside to live with her grandmother, who tells her that the forest is haunted by ancient Norse gods. Sofie sets out to explore the stone cairn called Loke’s Mound, where she has seen a magical light. And when she steps inside, she encounters a mysterious figure sitting there in chains. Sofie finds herself face to face with none other than the ancient Norse god—Loki.
Sofie goes back out to Loke in the stone cairn. Loke reveals that he can grant a wish if, in return, Sofie will break one of his three magical chains. Asbjørn has brought a sick hare home from the forest, and Emma desperately wishes for it to get well again. But the hare is so weak that only a miracle could save it…
Sofie takes Jonas to see Loke, who cured Emma’s sick rabbit with his runic magic. Jonas has a great wish that he hopes Loke will help him fulfill. Loke is willing to do so—if, in return, Jonas breaks the second of his three magical chains. Back home, Tove receives a language course in the mail so Sofie can learn Chinese before they travel to Singapore. Sofie gets upset and wishes she didn’t have to go…
Sofie is sad that she has to leave after Christmas, and wishes she didn’t have to go. Jonas thinks she should ask Loke for help, but Sofie isn’t sure she dares. Loke has only one of the magic chains left, and what will happen if they set him completely free? Back at the forester’s house, Tove is really busy, and Asbjørn thinks she should try taking a break for once. But can Tove even imagine doing anything other than working and traveling? And will Sofie and Jonas be able to stop her with Loke’s help?
Sofie and Loke have accidentally set Loke free, and now Loke has disappeared from his cave. Outside, it has started to snow, school is closed due to freezing temperatures, and Tove’s internet connection has gone out. Is this the first sign of the dreaded Fimbulwinter? Have Sofie and Jonas really set Ragnarok in motion? The end of the world? There’s only one thing to do: Sofie and Jonas must find Loke again and get him back to the cave before it’s too late.
Sofie and Jonas follow Loki through the secret tunnel. They end up in another world: Asgard—home of the ancient Norse gods. There, Sofie and Jonas discover the gods’ legendary hall: Valhalla. But has Loki hidden himself here? And what adventures await them beyond Valhalla’s gates?
Sofie and Jonas return to Valhalla to ask Thor for help in capturing Loki. But Thor is furious upon hearing that Loki has escaped, and tells the true story of why Loki was chained in Midgard. Back at the forest ranger’s house, Tove tries to repair the table that Emma smashed with Thor’s hammer. But she, too, ends up needing help from an unexpected source…
Sofie and Jonas return to Valhalla to find out if Loki has a friend. Someone who’s hiding him while Loki plans Ragnarok. No one can help Sofie and Jonas until they meet Freja, the goddess of love, and her father, Njord. He, you see, owes Loki a huge favor. Back home, Tove and Asbjørn are writing Christmas cards when they’re suddenly visited by a very strange TV repairman…
To regain his strength before Ragnarok, Loki needs Ydun’s magical apples of strength. So Sofie and Jonas head to Valhalla to get the apples before he does. But the gate to Valhalla is closed, and Loki has devised a cunning plan. Sofie and Jonas will have to be even smarter if they’re going to outwit Loki.
Loke has lost a key inscribed with secret runes, but Sofie and Jonas can’t read runes. Ragnhild explains that the secret of the runes is guarded by Odin—the King of the Gods. But Odin’s help doesn’t come for free. What must Sofie and Jonas sacrifice to get help with the runes? What must Asbjørn sacrifice to get Tove’s attention? And is Tove really in love with Mr. Tong from Singapore?
The hunt for Loki takes Sofie and Jonas to Hel, the realm of the dead. There they meet Balder, the god of light. He has been killed by Loki and must remain imprisoned there until Ragnarok. Sofie and Jonas want to help him, but the queen of the realm of the dead refuses to set Balder free. And suddenly, things look bleak for Sofie and Jonas. Anyone can enter Hel. But no one ever gets out again…
Lucia is the Festival of Lights, but there’s a power outage at the forester’s house, so everything is dark. Sofie and Jonas have received a secret message from Balder, but Emma has eaten half of it. So now they have to return to the realm of the dead, where Balder tells them important news about Loki. He also gives them a very special gift to take home for Lucia…
Loki has fled to Udgård: the land of the evil giants. There, he plans to gather a great army of giants for Ragnarok. If Sofie and Jonas want to stop him, they’ll have to follow him there. The problem is, they don’t know where Udgård is. Only the gods in Valhalla can help them. But how can they convince Thor and the others to send two human children alone to the most dangerous place in the world of the gods?
Sofie and Jonas now have a map showing the way to Udgård. They get ready to leave and tell their parents that they’re going on a trip to Copenhagen. But it’s not that simple: Asbjørn doesn’t want Jonas to go, so Sofie has to set off alone. While Jonas stays behind in Midgård, Sofie rides off alone toward the land of the giants. Ahead of her lie Loki, the giant army, and the most dangerous place in the world of the gods.
Sofie and Jonas arrive at the giants’ castle. Here, the giant Thrym reigns, and he is planning a grand feast for his guest of honor. Sofie and Jonas try to slip in unnoticed, but it’s not easy for two human children. And soon they realize that Thrym’s guest of honor is Loki. But why has Loki come? What is his plan? And can Sofie and Jonas stop him before it’s too late?
Sofie and Jonas want to capture Loki with the magic chains before he starts Ragnarok. Sofie disguises herself as a giant, but Loki isn’t that easy to fool. While Jonas is trapped in the giants’ kitchen, Sofie is captured by Loki. Back home, Tove helps Asbjørn find a new tango partner, and neither of them knows that Sofie and Jonas are suddenly very far from home…
Sofie and Jonas are back safe and sound. But they didn’t manage to capture Loki, and now there’s only one week left until Ragnarok. Only one thing stands between Loki and victory. A secret weapon that will make him invincible. Sofie and Jonas turn to the gods, who reveal that what Loke is missing isn’t an object but an animal—the largest and strongest animal in all the worlds…
The Fenrir Wolf is hidden somewhere in the human world. But none of the gods can remember where. While Sofie and Jonas explore old family photos, Tove receives a visit from a very strange mailman who is actually Loki in disguise. What is Loki doing at the forester’s house? What secret do the family photos hold? And is the Fenris Wolf perhaps closer than Sofie and Jonas think?
Loki has taken Snifer, who was actually Fenrir the Wolf. Loki now has everything he needs for Ragnarok. Sofie and Jonas go to Valhalla to tell the gods the truth. That they have set Loki free and set Ragnarok in motion. What will happen when the gods learn the truth? How far will Asbjørn go to stop Tove from leaving? And will Snifer ever return to Emma?
Loki has had a change of heart and now wants to help Sofie and Jonas stop Ragnarok. But Thrym has the Fenris Wolf, so maybe it’s all too late? Sofie and Jonas head to Valhalla to try out one last, desperate idea: Can they break the prophecy of Ragnarok? Can two human children change a divine plan for the end of all worlds?
The gods must forgive Loki. That will break the prophecy and stop Ragnarok. Now Sofie and Jonas just need to find someone who will forgive Loki for what he did to Balder. Disguised as Ragnhild, Loki returns to his old family. I wonder if Loki still has a friend among them? Or are they still angry with him? And how long do you think Loki’s disguise can withstand the gods’ piercing gaze?
Thrym’s army of giants stands at the gates of Valhalla. The fate of the gods now lies in the hands of three human children from Midgard. Sofie, Jonas, and Emma journey to the realm of the dead to retrieve the last one who can still stop Ragnarok: Balder. But the god of light is but a faint glimmer of hope in the darkness. For Balder is trapped in Hel, and the final battle has arrived.
Sofie and Tove are still set to travel away on Christmas Eve itself, and not even the greatest of the Norse gods can change that. Or can they? What does Loki have up his sleeve for Christmas? What is Asbjørn’s Christmas gift for Tove? And will Sofie and Jonas ever see each other again?
